When I
was a child, I wanted to become someone which have a wonderful job such as: a Doctor, a Lawyer, or an Engineer.
The question is, how I end up being an accounting major? Well, it all started with a conversation at a late
night with my old sister, Qatrun. She work as financial auditor at her office
in BATA Shoes Company which is located in Jakarta. My Sister convinced me
that accountant would be a safe job because every company need an accountant
and it is an interesting job that would be constantly challenging me as a
profesional. After some discussion with my dad and mom, I decided to change my
interest major for collage from doctor to accounting. Also, I decided to apply
to Gunadharma University. Gunadharma University located not far away from my
parents house, it was great decision for my family, because I am the youngest
son for my parents and my older siblings has move away from my parents house
and each of them are live with their spouse. So I can go to collage and take
care my parents simultaneously. Now I am entering my third year at Gunadharma University
as Accounting student.
I
think it is important that you find interest and passion at your major, when
looking major for a collage, I looked for something that involved numbers
because I am interested in working with numbers. Since I was in elementary
school I have proficiency in mathematical subjects and when I am in high school
I like to buy something with wholesale quantity and sell it to my friend in
retail quantity and earning some profit from it. So I choose Accounting major.
I realized that accounting major is the right choice for me.
I knew
it since the first day of Principles of Accounting said that accounting was not
going to be an easy major and that it was definitely need effort from me going
to challenge me day by day. Now I am in Intermediate Accounting stage, I realized
that there are a lot of different methods, principles, and rules. It all seems
very overwhelming to have to memorize all of these methods and principles, but
I think it will paid off someday if I study very hard since beginning stage of
accounting major. Now I understand that accounting jobs are in high demand, but
I will study very hard due to I will facing a lot of talented fresh graduate to
competition to get best company.
Being
active in several organizations, extra curricula activity in univeristy makes
me become a potential person in doing both industrial and social management
skills. I am a high-motivated person, quick leaner, and persist in achieving my
goal in life. I also have good interpersonal skill and outgoing personality
that enable me, not only to work as an independent but also to work in groups. That is a particular skill that will bring me to success in
the accounting field. But my brother in law said the skill that you have will
become nothing if you have a bad attitude. so my definition of professionalism
is being organized, mature, confident, possessing proper time management skills
and the most important is have a good attitude. If I come across something
that I am not able to do then I take it upon myself to figure it out.
Someday
even I got a job in great company I still determined to improve my knowledge
because my life quote which I quoted from Ibnu Majah “seeking knowledge is a
duty upon every muslim”.
